About this web site
How it differs from almost
every other religious or spiritual web site
|
|
|
| If you
are a True Believer in Christianity, please be prepared to be shocked
and/or outraged |
 |
We believe that:
 | Religions are very
different. |
 | Religions teach very different
perceptions of God. |
 | Differing religions cannot all be absolutely true in their
beliefs. |
 | With few exceptions, most faith groups have a positive
influence on their members. |
 | Some religions and their followers have committed terrible
atrocities against women and minorities. |
 | Most theistic religions are "bottom-up" faiths.
That is, their beliefs, practices and holy books are the
creation of humans trying to comprehend the nature of the
universe they see. |
 | Few of the theistic religions are "top-down"
faiths. That is, their beliefs, practices and holy books
represent revelation from God to humanity. Many may have
started as "top-down" faiths, but they have made
many changes and interpretations since the beginning. |
 | One can criticize the actions of faith groups without
demeaning their doctrines. |
 | One can criticize the doctrines faith groups without
demeaning its believers. |
|
 |
These sites describes faiths, from
Asatru to Wicca.
We describe the various beliefs, pointing out how they agree or
conflict with their own scriptures or with reason or science. |
 |
We discuss controversial topics,
from abortion,
to capital
punishment, evolution
and homosexuality.
We let reason and logic be our guide. |
We define "religious tolerance" differently from some:
|
|

|
To
be tolerant does not require that we accept other beliefs as
true.
By religious tolerance, we mean that we permit - Christians, Jews,
Muslims, Wiccans, and others -- should to follow their own religious
beliefs and practices freely, as long as they do not violate the rights
of anyone else.
Religious diversity is increasing throughout America. Each of us must
learn to tolerate the moral and social differences of others' faiths, or
or we are headed for disaster. They must tolerate us too.
